The Inheritance

Last night I watched a Hallmark movie called The Inheritance. This is an inspirational story of a servant girl who loves the family she works for and later learns that she is related to them. Mr. Hamilton found Edith as an infant in Italy and saved her from being sent to an orphanage. Later, he finds out that Edith is his niece.

Edith shows a deep and genuine interest in others. She chooses to put others first and love them no matter how they treat her in return. In the beginning of the movie, Ida, the Hamilton's cousin, comes to stay with them in hopes of finding a suitable husband. She is immediately jealous of Edith's beauty and inner character. She constantly belittles Edith and makes her feel inferior to the Hamiltons. However, throughout the entire movie Edith treats Ida with respect.

As I specifically thought about Edith's kindness toward Ida, I thought of how I treat those around me. When someone is mean to me my first reaction isn't to be nice to them. It is so hard to be kind to those who hurt us. Jesus wants us to follow Edith's example and treat everyone with respect and kindness no matter how they treat us.

Romans 12:20-21
"On the contrary: If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."
