Content To Simply Be Yourself

Content to simply be yourself. Hmmm....that sounds like something out of a kid's book, right? In today's culture, it is hard to find what it means to be "comfortable in your own skin" or see what true confidence really is. But that statement above didn't originally come from some fairy tale or Disney movie. Those five life-changing words come from Jesus Christ. Matthew 23:11-12 says, "Do you want to stand out? Then step down. Be a servant. If you puff yourself up, you'll get the wind knocked out of you. But if you're content to simply be yourself, your life will count for plenty." There is no self-help book that can point you towards yourself. There is not a TV show or movie that can give you some enlightened sort of help. There is nothing in this world that can help you simply be you. The only way that you can be content to simply be yourself is through Jesus Christ. When you allow His Words to define you, your life will never be the same. Remember, you will never find yourself by looking in the mirror. Contrary to popular belief, if you want to find yourself, you must look up...not in. Matthew 10:38-39 says, "If your first concern is to look after yourself, you'll never find yourself. But if you forget about yourself and look to me, you'll find both yourself and me." I can't help you gain confidence. I can only point you to the author of confidence. He alone can help you.

My sister and I discovered this song recently and instantly fell in love with it! Demi Lovato's new single, "La La Land," tells girls to be themselves and stop conforming to the "la la land" around us of plastic girls who look and act exactly the same. And, even more exciting, it seems that Demi is living the words that she sings! Check out this music video....

That is what Simply Emily is all about. I am on this same journey of life as you. I am taking it one day and one step at a time in the direction that God leads me. I want Matthew 23:11-12 to be an anthem for the journey. As Jesus said, we can make a difference for Him when we are content to simply be ourselves.
