Surfs Up

This is Kristi, Me, and Katie taking a break from all of the great waves!

I think I am getting the hang of it!

At 7 a.m. this morning, Kristi, Katie, and I headed to the beach to learn how to surf. After we listened to the ins and outs of surfing and saw the right technique we headed towards the water. We all took turns trying to paddle and jump into the right position like our instructor had shown us. It was so much fun falling and laughing at each other. When we finally made it on the board we smiled with pride. We had accomplished a great feat--learning to surf.

Growing with God is a lot like learning how to surf. We head to church and listen to the messages our pastors and youth pastors give us and then step back into our lives to use those principles. For surfing we had three main rules:

1. Have fun!
2. Live to surf another day.
3. Bring your surf board back.

The coaches and instructors gave us these rules and other guidelines to help us in the water. If they had just handed us a board and said, "Have fun" we would have been totally lost and probably ended up physically hurt. God has blessed us with people in our lives to help train us and guide us through life. Life can be hard and you can get scratches and bruises, but how you react to those scratches and bruises is what matters. The Rocky Balboa movie says it like this, "It's not how hard you can hit, but how hard you can be hit." On the surfboards today we fell and laughed and tried again. When we mess up in life we need to get back up and try again. And when we finally do stand on the surf board of life we can smile with pride knowing that we are daily growing closer to God.

That was a good time, wasn't it? We'll have to go again when there are actually waves!

I'm so glad I get to hang out with you so much this summer! I have absolutely enjoyed the time we've shared together, and I'm looking forward to making many more memories with you. You're life is a living example of being HIS princess!

Love ya!
Kristi
