I'll Never Let Go...

This morning I read an amazing verse in Psalm 91. This verse is so awesome--it reminds us of how Jesus protects us. For the whole context, check out Psalm 91 and then we will zone-in on verse four.

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. If you make the Most High your dwelling—even the LORD, who is my refuge--then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. "Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation."

Now let's take a look at verse 4: He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. Wow, God will cover us with His wings. That is a really cool mental picture; I mean, just imagine one of your most terrifying moments and then in the midst of your pain, Jesus wrapping His arms around you and keeping you safe. Wow! Jesus chooses to step in the middle of your pain, hurt, confusion, and fear and wrap his loving arms around you to secure you during the storm. During those moments, make sure you allow His embrace to encompass you and allow Him to guide you through your decisions. In the midst of pain it is extremely easy to make a hasty decision based on our emotions. But in a time of confusion, we need to lock eyes with Jesus and base our decisions on Him. As the David Crowder Band sings, "Oh no, you never let go. Through the calm and through the storm. Oh no, you never let go. Lord you never let go of me!"

Hold tightly to Jesus--I promise you that He will never let go of you. Trust Him on that.

Emily,

Thanks for the post! How great is it to know that he'll always be there for us?? Psalms is my favorite book of the Bible, and Psalm 91 is one of my all-time favorite Psalms. It's a really great reminder that God is always protecting us, wherever we are!

(Funny, I seem to remember reading the exact same psalm on this exact same day...it's almost like we're following the same Bible reading plan or something!) :)
